Twice a day, David takes medicine to help keep him healthy. Each morning, after I finish dressing David I tell him, get your watch, wallet and pills. He'll get up from the chair and get his watch, wallet and pills. Normally, I'll call David into the bathroom a few minutes later to brush his teeth and when he opens his mouth I normally see several partially dissolved pills just sitting on his tongue. It's enough to make me gag, but David doesn't see a problem with it. I then tell David to swallow his pills and to drink some water. David does so, and we brush his teeth and we are off to start our day.
I got to thinking about David's habit, and I realized that as Christians, we are a lot like David. You see, the things that are good for us (like David's pills are for him) should be swallowed slowly, and allowed to dissolve fully in our hearts and minds before we move on to the next task. However, we rush about in our Bible reading and prayer time because our schedules are so full and we have so much work to do. Then the things that aren't so good for us, like too much television, is given all the time in the world.
I'm still going to tell David to swallow his pills each day, but when I do, I'm also going to ask myself if I spent enough time letting God's Word dissolve in my heart that morning. How about you?

In some ways we are exactly
like your brother and my
son. We don't always want
to take our medicine (Bible reading,
prayer, etc.). I am very
thankful we have a kind and
understanding God. Someone
who helps us each step of
our Christian walk!
I love your short and to the
point little stories.
God Bless You,
Rachelle
